you may or may not believe this

but I got to hang out with Joseph Smith's Bible today. Yes, the Bible he read out of when he read James 1:5. I got to touch it, read it, turn the pages, see his name and family names hand written in it, and I took a picture with it on my phone. So cool. We have it on loan from the Smith family to make a box for it. I love working in the conservation lab.

I'm trying to get ahold of a celebrity.

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get ahold of Lance Acord. He is the director of photography in most of Sofia Coppola's films. I want to study with him if I can. Does anyone know where to start? he doesn't have a website which makes it sort of hard.
"Hey Lance! just giving you a shout out!"

NOT CANCELED

I did not cancel prom. Everything is going as planned. I just wanted to take it off of facebook because it is getting out of control. The Deseret Morning News is doing a story on it, that is what I mean by out of control. I can't wait, it's going to be so good. I love you all and I will see you there. Dress to impress because the pictures won't stop snapping.

show off phase

Alissa told me today that I am in a show-off phase. I think she is right, I have been in performance mode nonstop. Tap dancing, jump roping, drawing, taking pictures, playing keyboard, joking, its been pretty consistent. I hope I haven't been annoying. It's true that when I get attention for performing I just do it more and more. It's a vicious cycle. I don't really mean to do it so that people will give me credit, i do it because it is so fun and i think that whoever is there would like to see it too. Like someone who wants to share the church with others because it brings them so much happiness. I know I probably just come off as annoying or self absorbed, but I swear I can't help it!

stylistic identity maybe?

i think my style might be falling somewhere between tina tyrell and ilan rubin. i feel okay about that. although it does depart from the bright vegas influence that i have not seemed to be able to escape. its okay either way, but i think i will find peace if i can come up with a formula. oh yeah, and it turns out that someone already did my idea of making photographs with compositions based on japanese woodcuts. any ideas for a new orca proposal?

black bottom dance

cruel money

you know there is something cruel going on when the universe makes you choose between Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem, and B.R.M.C. all in 2 months. I love all of these bands so much! Would anyone like to go to Morrissey with me? they still have really good tickets left and if I do go with someone I would like to sit by them, so we should buy them at the same time. I have to see Morrissey, I heard that he has been playing old Smiths songs on this tour. He sang Please, Please, Please. Do you know how amazing that would be live?!!! Let me know if you want to go. $45 and worth it.

new post for alissa!

I have been having a pretty good time in Provo lately. School has been super busy, I'm starting on my BFA year and I have to decide on 3 projects (2 for fine art, 1 for BFA) by tomorrow! yikes! there are too many things I want to do!
Work has been busy, I put up 2 exhibits in the last week.
The band is going really well, it is so fun! I can't wait till we have a show! although I do have to work on my stage presence, I tend to concentrate really hard and my face is stiff, or my mouth hangs open. Embarrassing!
I also decided to do Goth Prom on Saturday October 13th. Mark your calendars! GOTH PROM III 2007! If you will let me have it at your house that would be cool, and I need a projector this year. Anyone??
And in latest as in the last hour news, I am having an art show in November. I need models. Call me if you want to volunteer your body/face/self.

too excited

its 4:20 am. funny. i might delete this post because i think i am a little out of it right now. i can't sleep, i'm too excited for school and we had band practice before i went to bed and i can't get the music out of my head. my brain feels like spaghetti by the way. bret is a really good musician, i feel lucky to be playing with him. quinn is really good too. courtney and i have never been in a band and i feel like we are doing well because quinn and bret are so good. it's like learning from the best. i always feel so lucky when i get to dance with someone really good because then i learn to be better, i think it is the same thing with making music.
by the way i was able to add tap dancing to my list of classes, which means i will finally be able to teach my body to do what i do in my head almost all day long. tap tap tap shuffle the buffalo!
laura said that if i were a stereotype of myself i would be a vaudeville star. i don't know if she knows how happy that made me. i really want to be a vaudeville star more than almost anything.

QUESTION TO ALL

I'm taking a poll. Who wants to see Goth Prom happen again this year? anybody interested? Do we want a new twist? Death Prom? Rockabilly Prom? Zombie Prom? Vampire Prom? Creepy Cabaret? Masquerade? Do we want it on halloween weekend or earlier in the month so as not to interfere with other activities? Is there a location that anyone can think of? the canyon perhaps? too cold? Please leave me comments with all your input.

Daft Punk is playing at my house

I didn't get to see Daft Punk, but I did get to go to the afterparty which was amazing. It was dj'd by SebastiAn and Busy P, they mashed up Daft Punk and LCD soundsystem and basically it blew my mind.

trapeze

Yesterday I closed my eyes and jumped off a platform that was about 30 feet in the air. I don't really know how it happened, but I also swung upside down through the air and was caught by another person swinging about 45 feet away from me. I did backflips off the swing, and I did mention the whole upside down hanging from my knees part right? I wish I had pictures, I'm so mad at myself for not bringing the camera. I wore my unitard too! Arthur was really good at it of course, it seems logical that trapeze would be his next adventure. They kept calling him the pirate king. Its still weird to think that I actually went to a trapeze class, but I have the bruises on the backs of my knees to prove that it happened.

today i modeled?

Today i modeled for Fred Flare it was sort of fun, but it was weird. I don't think I would like to be a model, it makes me tired. I think Elaine would really like stuff from Fred Flare, in fact I think a lot of our friends would.

p.s.. the yardbirds are sexy

rain/tornado warning/flooding!/new york

Yesterday it rained insanely hard for about 2 hours, which caused not only the subways to flood, but alissa and matts apartment as well. matt woke up to his mattress floating (with him on it), alissas shoes floating by which had traveled from her room to his, and the fan on the floor splashing the water that had collected. meanwhile i was sleeping upstairs, but was wakened and shakened at 6:30 am by thunder so loud that it sounded like it was right on top of us. i usually find storms soothing, but this one was crazy.
This was the beginning of the adventure.
Yesterday was scheduled to be my first attending of a real New York photoshoot. (Now 7:30 am.) I decided to call a car to make sure I would get to the shoot on time, every line was busy, I called about 5 different numbers and companies but nothing would work. So on my bike I hurried to the train stop. On Bedford and 7th North were tons of people milling around on their phones wondering what to do because as it happened, all the trains were stopped due to flooding. For some reason i was still not worried, I knew I would be late, but I am very resourceful, and I usually find a way to get things done, I would find a way to my shoot.
I was standing at the train stop when a girl with a Boston accent and blue eyes asked me what was going on and where I was trying to go. I told her the trains were stopped and I was going to the west side, she happened to be going there too. She said she would have to have her boyfriend drive her, so I casually asked if I could go along. She said sure and that was that, I ended up hanging out at her apartment for about an hour and then her boyfriend (a true New York catholic italian) drove us into the city. One second they would be fighting and yelling and the next they would be calmly inquiring about mormonism. We exchanged numbers and I was off.
Now about 11:00. I arrived at the photoshoot. To sum it up I will make a list
-all male models, a russian, a taiwanese, a white american, and a black american
-abstract sweatsuits
-modern dance (the photographer asking me to give examples of it)
-me playing dj (but using arthurs awesome playlist most of the time)
-me pushing the modeling light button all day
-the 19 year old russian boy was playing with a baby at one point, and then at another was making machine gun noises while rolling back on the floor. He put the Michael Jackson song on repeat, he sang along with a cute russian accent, he drank 3 cans of pepsi while saying how much he loved it, and he danced like the happiest little boy in the world. so i had to get his number.
-I stayed until everyone was gone, I fell asleep on the the train home, and was dreaming by midnight.
I made 3 new friends yesterday, it was so fun. I love New York.

shows

I saw CSS for free last night. They are amazing. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if you see me in a metallic unitard sometime in the near future.
I also saw the New York Dolls for free at Coney Island a few weeks ago. David Johanneson is so old and awesome, I don't think there is a single ounce of fat on his skinny wrinkled little body. His waist could not be more than 20 inches around.
There are so many free shows out here, I feel like I am catching up with all these bands I have missed in the past. Oh yeah, and I saw TV on th Radio. (only for a few minutes though, I felt tired and left).
I am really sad that I missed the Peter, Bjorn and John show in Salt Lake, but I wonder who I will get to see next out here. And for some reason I miss Bardhi????

purpose

So i finally found a purpose for myself being here in NY. I am going to set up an internship for next spring while I'm here. I already met with one photographer, he sent me in the right direction. But, at the same time his advice threw everything into upheaval because now I have to start over with finding a style for myself. Apparently my portfolio is too all over the place and I need to have seperate websites for each of the things I do. And I have to decide what I want to specialize in. Oh well, time to start work again. And I am also going to try and have better punctuation when I write. I used to be lazy and never use caps, but I find it useful now in separating words and thoughts.

catching up with life

last night I saw Wu Tang Clan and Rage Against the Machine at the Rock the Bells concert. It was like I was 14 again, it was so so so fun to be in a sweaty mess of people and listen to ODB and Zack DeLarocha. I listened to Rage on my way to take my ACT test in high school. funny. I also saw them at a show in Las Vegas when I was probably 14 or 15. They played all old stuff. Thanks Matt Wood! HA ! CORRECTION. ODB is no longer with us. MY BADD!!!! (what? they sang his stuff, and there were so many tiny guys way up on that stage so far away, I must have lost my head! I don't keep up, i'm just a white girl that likes to hear the tough stuff now and then!)
